Allistair McCaw is a sports performance and mindset coach who has worked with Olympic and World champion athletes and Grand Slam winners.

In “Champion Minded”, he outlines how to develop winning standards in both sports and life by teaching you the mindset, habits and discipline of a champion.

The book has over 125 lessons and inspirational anecdotes. I read a short chapter or two every day over three months and refer to my highlighted pages as a regular reminder to apply the insights into my daily life.

Using quotes from champion athletes, coaches and world leaders, he emphasizes the importance of preparation, having a positive self talk, focusing on process over outcomes, and mastering the fundamentals required to be a champion in whatever sport or life endeavor you choose to excel in.

I loved the following insights: “Leave no room for regret.  Train daily to write and live your best story for your life” and regarding the importance of kindness, “You will always be remembered by how you made others feel”.

“It is a great book for parents to read regularly with their children who are aspiring athletes as a way of sparking values-based conversations without the sermon from a helicopter parent.”
